Can I incorporate a little romance into a story without it being too cliche?

I’m planning out a story and since I am a hopeless romantic I want there to be a little bit of a love story. I realize that a lot of love stories are cliche, but are there ways to make it not so cliche?

Yeah definately. So I’m just guessing that it isn’t a love story, only because you want to incorperate a bit..?
If so, if its an action or fantasy or whatever, I think a little bit of romance makes it feel more real – because we all feel love at somepoint.
Well, to make it not cliche, maybe they actually never end up together? Or maybe the person the main character lonves, loves someone else. Of course, they are going to have to have tension and fireworks for t to be a love story… Just don’t fal into the twilight trap (sorry to mention it, because i don’t hate it) but it was just very. "oh I’m bella and I love edward, he loves me too. Happy ever after.!"
make sure there is some twisits.

Absolutely. The main reason cliches are cliche is because they’re true and what people can relate to. There is very little, if anything, new under the sun. The writer’s task is to find those ways to present ancient themes from new perspectives.
